Paul Blackburn gets another start
It’s a new day. Last weekend was last weekend, and it doesn’t matter what happened then. The Oakland A’s have a game tonight against the Seattle Mariners. Focus on winning that.
The A’s have Paul Blackburn on the mound. The right-hander made a spot start last Wednesday against the White Sox, working into the 6th inning and limiting a tough lineup to three runs. That was his best MLB performance since 2018, and another solid effort against the Mariners this evening would be a big boost for the pitching staff after a tough couple weeks.
Blackburn was originally acquired by the A’s in a trade from the Mariners, after the 2016 season. This is the third time he’s pitched against his former organization, with one good game in 2017 and one bad game in 2020 (total: 10 innings, 8 runs).
In Oakland’s lineup, third baseman Matt Chapman was a late scratch from the lineup with a left foot contusion, reports Shayna Rubin of the Mercury News, but fortunately X-rays were negative.
