On a winning streak!
The Oakland A’s have won three games in a row! That includes last night’s series opener at T-Mobile Park against the Seattle Mariners, and now they’ll play the M’s again Friday night.
On the mound for the A’s is Frankie Montas. The right-hander was quality each of his last two times out, and close enough the two times before that, all against contending teams (Giants, Red Sox, Astros, Indians). However, his efforts (23⅓ ip, 7 runs, 2.70 ERA, 25 K, 8 BB) mostly went to waste as Oakland lost three of those four games. In each of Montas’ last three appearances, his teammates have managed exactly two runs per game on offense.
Seattle answers with Yusei Kikuchi, who got the All-Star spot that should have gone to the far superior Sean Manaea but the Mariners needed a lone rep. That said, Kikuchi did shut down the A’s this year when he faced them in May, with six innings of one-run ball to beat Montas (who took the loss with 6 ip, 4 runs, but 11 strikeouts).
