Miscommunication costly in this loss
After dropping the first two games of the series to the American League West rival Texas Rangers, the Athletics hoped to rebound for game three tonight at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Taking the mound for the A’s tonight was 29-year-old lefty JP Sears. Patrick Corbin got the call for Texas.
Both pitchers had things fully under control until the bottom of the third. With two down, Corey Seager homered to center field to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Sears struck out the side in order in the bottom of the fourth. That gave him six K’s for the game so far.
In the top of the sixth, Brent Rooker singled with one out. Kurtz ripped a double down the first base line. Rooker hustled from the crack of the bat and scored on the play at second.

Shea Langeliers squibbed a grounder to third that Josh Jung couldn’t make a play on. Kutz moved to third on the hit. That knocked Corbin out of the game. The A’s couldn’t get Kurtz home so headed to the bottom of the sixth, the game was tied 1-1. Jack Perkins replaced Sears in the bottom of the inning. Sears final line was five innings, one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
In the bottom of the seventh, the A’s inexperience and defensive woes cost the team a run. With two outs Wyatt Langford walked. Then Jonah Heim dropped a pop-up right between Tyler Soderstrom and Jacob Wilson. Either could have made the play, but neither did. The official scorer gave Heim a double. That gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
Robert Garcia, the Rangers closer, came in to pitch the ninth. Shea Langeliers led off with a base hit, but then he slammed the door on the A’s batters. The Rangers took this one 2-1 and completed the sweep tonight. The A’s take the short trip to Houston to finish off this road trip against the Astros.
