Justin Verlander vs. Jeffrey Springs.
It’s series finale time, and after yet another pitching-and-Wilmer-fueled win on Saturday, the San Francisco Giants are seeking a sweep against their former neighbors and questionable rivals, the Athletics. And with it being a day game following a night game, and a game against a southpaw, the Giants are going with something of a B squad.
And for the Giants, it’s righty Justin Verlander taking the mound for his 10th start of the year. Verlander is still looking for his first win with the Giants, as he’s 0-3 with a 4.31 ERA, a 4.66 FIP, and 40 strikeouts against 16 walks in 48 innings. After giving up 14 earned runs in his first four starts, he’s allowed just nine over his last five outings, including two in six innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks his last time out.
On the other side is A’s lefty Jeffrey Springs, who is also making his 10th start of the season. Springs, who is an eight-year MLB veteran in his debut season with the Athletics, is 5-3 with a 4.27 ERA, a 4.59 FIP, and 36 strikeouts to 21 walks in 46.1 innings. He’s been lights out in his last three starts, and in his last start allowed just one run in seven innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. For that, we thank him!
Enjoy the game, everyone. Go Giants!
