Hayden Birdsong vs. Janson Junk.
It’s time for the series finale between the San Francisco Giants and the Miami Marlins. And while it’s already been a disappointing series and home stand, the Giants at least have the chance to end both on a high note, and jet off to Chicago with a win in the books.
Yep, it’s getaway day, which means day baseball. It’s also an all-time great pitcher-name matchup: Hayden Birdsong vs. Janson Junk.
Birdsong, a righty, makes his seventh start of the season, and his 18th appearance. He’s 3-1 with a 3.25 ERA, a 3.78 FIP, and 55 strikeouts against 20 walks in 52.2 innings. He’s coming off a rough outing in which he allowed five runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings against the Boston Red Sox.
Opposing him is Junk, a right-hander who makes his seventh appearance of the year, and his second start. The 29-year old is 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA, a 1.48 FIP, and 25 strikeouts against just two walks in 27.2 innings. His last outing was his first start of the year, and he gave up just one run in five innings against the Atlanta Braves.
Enjoy the game! Go Giants!
