Robbie Ray vs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
It’s time for the final game of the first half of the season, and the San Francisco Giants are left with two choices: enter the break having just won a game and a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, or enter the break having just lost a game and a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.
It’s a matchup that pits two of the NL’s best pitchers against each other in an All-Star showdown. For the Giants, it’s lefty Robbie Ray, who makes his 20th start. Ray is 9-3 on the year, with a 2.63 ERA, a 3.45 FIP, and 122 strikeouts against 42 walks in 113 innings. He gave up one run in 5.2 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies his last time out.
On the other side is righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has been sensational in his second MLB season. In 18 starts, Yamamoto is 8-7 with a 2.77 ERA, a 3.29 FIP, and 109 strikeouts to 34 walks in 97.1 innings. He’s coming off his worst start of the year, in which he failed to make it out of the first inning.
Enjoy the game, everyone … though it’s a hassle to watch. It’s on the Roku Channel, which is free (even if you don’t have a TV provider). You can download the Roku Channel app on your smart TV, or watch on your computer by going to their website.
