Logan Webb vs. Marcus Stroman
The Giants face off against the New York Mets again today in game two of this three game series.
Taking the mound for the Giants will be Logan Webb. Webb enters tonight’s game with a 2.96 ERA, 3.23 FIP, with 90 strikeouts to 26 walks in 85 innings pitched. Webb’s last few starts have been strong, lasting six innings pretty consistently, where he’s been averaging about four hits per start. He hasn’t given up more than two runs since May 5th. The only Mets player who has faced him is Kevin Pillar, who’s had five at bats against him with a .200 average.
The Mets will counter with Marcus Stroman, who will enter the game with a 2.79 ERA, 3.45 FIP with 114 strikeouts to 31 walks in 132 innings pitched. Stroman is coming off of a strong start against the Washington Nationals, in which he allowed three hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out eight in five and a third innings pitched.
The Giants haven’t seen a lot of Stroman, who spent the majority of his career with the Blue Jays before being traded to the Mets at the deadline in 2019, and he opted out of the 2020 season. So the only Giant who has a significant amount of at bats against Stroman is Evan Longoria, with .214 average in 28 plate appearances. Though both he and Alex Dickerson have had home runs against him.
Update: Kris Bryant was a late scratch with hamstring tightness, he will be replaced by Alex Dickerson in left field. Additionally, some late moves:
Tyler Chatwood was added to the active roster, Jay Jackson was optioned to AAA. Tyler Beede was placed 60-day IL with a lower back strain.
