Anthony DeSclafani vs. Jake Arrieta
The playoff-bound San Francisco Giants take on the playoff-hopeful San Diego Padres again tonight in game two of this four game series.
Taking the mound for the Giants will be Anthony DeSclafani, who enters tonight’s game with a 3.33 ERA, 3.75 FIP, with 137 strikeouts to 40 walks in 146 innings pitched. DeSclafani’s last start was last Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, in which he allowed seven hits, three runs, and one walk, striking out five in 4.1 innings pitched. That said, three runs at Coors Field is practically a shutout, and it helps when your team is averaging more than six runs of support per game.
He’ll be facing off against Jake Arrieta, who has been having a rough year. The former Cy Young Award winner was released by the Chicago Cubs last month and signed as a free agent with the Padres a few days later. Arrieta enters tonight’s game with a 7.04 ERA, 6.09 FIP, with 80 strikeouts to 41 walks in 94.2 innings pitched. His last start against the Houston Astros was fairly solid, however, allowing only three hits, three runs and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings of work. However, he seems to get lit up in every other game. In his last start before being released by the Cubs, he allowed 11 hits and eight runs in four innings.
