Kevin Gausman vs. Kyle Freeland
The San Francisco Giants hit the road to take on the Colorado Rockies in the first of this three game series.
The Giants are at a bit of a disadvantage, with a short travel turnaround after playing on Sunday Night Baseball last night, but they come in with some momentum, after taking two of three against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend, and are sitting back in first place in the division.
Taking the mound for the Giants will be Kevin Gausman who enters today’s game with a 2.52 ERA, 2.88 FIP, with 183 strikeouts to 47 walks in 157 innings pitched. Gausman’s last start was last Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers in which he allowed four hits, two runs, and one walk, striking out seven in five innings pitched. Unfortunately, his team didn’t provide much run support, so it was a loss for the Giants.
Considering this game will be in Colorado, that may not be a problem this time.
He’ll be facing off against Kyle Freeland, who enters today’s game with a 4.22 ERA, 4.44 FIP, with 81 strikeouts to 25 walks in 91.2 innings pitched. Freeland’s last start was last Wednesday, a start in which he was pulled in the second inning due to a left hip impingement, but he has been cleared to start today’s game, as of the time that this is being written.
As today is a holiday, this was pre-written, so no lineups. But I would expect to see Buster Posey and Evan Longoria play today, as they both have pretty good history against Freeland, each having a .292 average against him in 24 at bats.
