The experts seem unsure what the direction the Giants will head with the 13th pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The San Francisco Giants will make their first selection in the 2025 MLB Draft later today. With the 13th overall selection, the Giants will look to replenish a farm system that has already had some of it’s best prospects traded this summer to acquire Rafael Devers. Here is a look at who three experts predicted the Giants would select in their final mock drafts:
Carlos Collazo (Baseball America): Daniel Pierce, SS, Mill Creek HS (GA)
Keith Law (The Athletic): Tyler Bremner, RHP, UCSB
Jim Callis (MLB Pipeline): Kyson Witherspoon, RHP, Oklahoma
Collazo has long linked the Giants to prep shortstops, like Pierce. Still, he was clear in his final mock that he remains unsure of the team’s specific leanings. “I’ve gained no further clarity on the Giants top option here,” he wrote. “The overall read from the industry is that they’re hunting a bat with lots of high school shortstop options in play.”
Law has consistently mocked Bremner to the Giants, believing that San Francisco will not pass on the college righty if he falls to them. However, Law acknowledged some uncertainty of his own, “I’ve had the Giants with Bremner in almost every mock, but I don’t think it’s some mortal lock that they take him — it’s just the most plausible scenario here almost no matter what I do ahead of them,” Law wrote. “This is also the area of the draft where the second tier of college bats — Gavin Kilen, Marek Houston and perhaps Jace LaViolette — comes into play.”
Callis’ analysis reaffirms both Collazo and Law’s leanings without any clear leader. “There’s usually a guy who looks like a lock for the top 10 but falls, and in this scenario, it’s Witherspoon,” Callis wrote. “That would be a boon for the Giants, who otherwise would ponder college bats (Irish, Wake Forest shortstop Marek Houston, Texas A&M outfielder Jace LaViolette, Summerhill), prep shortstops (Pierce, Cunningham) and Bremner.”
