All the info you need on Alex Pavlovic’s debut book.
If you’re reading this, then it’s probably safe to assume that you enjoy reading words about the San Francisco Giants. If you don’t, well .. you’re lost, dude. Good luck finding whatever it is you’re looking for.
But assuming that you do enjoy reading words about the Giants, then I’ve got some good news for you. On Tuesday, there will be a whole lot more words for you to read about your favorite team. Because on July 8, NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Alex Pavlovic will release his debut book, The Franchise: San Francisco: A Curated History of the Orange and Black. It will be available in numerous bookstores across the city, while also being available for pre-order from the publisher, or on Amazon.
Here’s the book’s description from the publisher, Triumph Books:
In The Franchise: San Francisco Giants, take a more profound and unique journey into the history of an iconic team.
This thoughtful and engaging collection of essays captures the astute fans’ history of the franchise, going beyond well-worn narratives of yesteryear to uncover the less-discussed moments, decisions, people, and settings that fostered the Giants’ distinctive identity.
Through wheeling and dealing, mythmaking and community building, explore where the organization has been, how it came to prominence in the modern major league landscape, and how it will continue to evolve and stay in contention for generations to come.
Giants fans in the know will enjoy this personal, local, in-depth look at baseball history.
If you’ve listened to Giants Talk, the excellent bi-weekly podcast that Pavlovic and Cole Kuiper host, then you’ve likely heard Pavlovic talk about the many exciting and historic names he interviewed throughout the process of writing this book. It should be a fascinating peek behind the curtain that covers multiple eras of baseball … and a memory of some happier times as we all slog through the Giants current slump of fairly unenjoyable baseball.
And if you want to buy a book in person, get one autographed, or ask Pavs about ballpark foods across the nation, he’s hosting a pair of book signings and discussions later this month. On Thursday, July 17, he’ll be at BookShop West Portal at 7:00 p.m. PT, and on Sunday, July 20, he’ll be at Book Passage in the Ferry Building at 2:00 p.m. PT. Both events are free and open to the public.
