Not surprising.
I’m a touch late to this news after it slipped through the radar, but San Francisco Giants pitchers José Quintana and Jake Jewell have elected free agency, after finishing the season with the AAA Sacramento River Cats. Both pitchers could return to the organization, but they’ll have a chance to test the waters, and search for the best situation (in Quintana’s case that might be a Major League offer).

Quintana joined the Giants late in the season, and was quickly added to the active roster. The lefty had a few good appearances and a few bad ones, finishing with a 4.66 ERA and 6.58 FIP, with 12 strikeouts to 6 walks in 9.2 innings. He was designated for assignment near the end of the season, and reassigned to Sacramento.
Jewell was claimed off of waivers in September, and promptly optioned and then outrighted to Sacramento. He has yet to play a game for San Francisco, but it was the righty’s second stint in the organization after spending 2020 at the Alternate Training Site, so it would seem they’re rather fond of him.
