Bring it on, Oakland
Good Morning, baseball fans!
Today begins the time honored tradition of Bay Area: Civil War, with Giants fans and A’s fans clashing in the streets and brawling in the stands. That’s right, the Bay Bridge Series begins tonight.
And wait, do you hear that sound in the distance? That growing grumble can only mean one thing, salty A’s fans are getting ready to go on the offensive. They’ll find you in your mentions on social media; they’ll find you in the aisle of your local grocery store; they’ll corner you in the breakroom at work. They’re already hard at work doing searches for the words “Oakland A’s” looking for results from anyone with a Giants hat in their avatar to yell at.
Okay, that might be a bit harsh. But in my experience, it sure does seem like these series mean a lot more to A’s fans now than Giants fans. A’s fans in my life treat these games like we treat games against the Dodgers. Which just makes me sad. They should find their own Dodgers to be rivals with.
Meanwhile, their marketing team comes up with ever more elaborate troll attempts — from giving away free A’s hats to anyone who throws away a Giants hat, to reports that they were charging double for parking for Giants fans a couple of years back.
All of this tends to not actually promote their own, very talented team. But rather focus on how “WE HATE THE GIANTS” should be the sole identity of their fanbase. Which, to me, doesn’t seem like the most fun way to enjoy sports, but what do I know.
Anyway, after the introduction of the Bay Bridge Trophy, it got a little more interesting. (I mean, it’s the only trophy they’ve been able to get their hands on in 30+ years…)

I kid, I kid. I love A’s fans. I like the A’s well enough when they aren’t playing the Giants. And I even get the frustration. It’s a loyal fanbase that’s been through a lot without getting a lot back. So I never really get too heated when they win these games.
Although the stakes are a little bit higher this year, with both teams doing their best to secure a playoff spot. So we should be in for a fun series.

Is Brandon Belt not a particularly good hitter anymore? (July 29th, 2019 – Brady Klopfer. Also, lol)
