We’re obviously still a ways out, but as the weeks go on, it’s becoming more clear where the team needs to improve. What do Giants fans think the team should focus on improving as we get closer to the trade deadline?
Good morning, baseball fans!
We are gearing up for another fun weekend of San Francisco Giants baseball, as they head to Minneapolis to begin a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins tonight.
Now, I know it’s only May, but it’s never too early to start thinking about the trade deadline. I know, I know. I’m usually the last person who wants to think about that. But the Giants are good this year. So far, at least.
Which means that this might be the first full season I have covered where I might actually be on the side of “Buy! Buy! Buy!” at the deadline. Usually, I don’t want or expect them to do anything because they’re usually barely on the right side of .500 baseball. So I guess we’ll see how I feel as we get closer, but for now I’m enjoying the optimism.
So, what should the Giants be focusing on as we approach the deadline?
I think the position in biggest need of an upgrade is first base. As much as I like LaMonte Wade, Jr., his numbers (.144/.250/.247 as of the time this is being written) are not exactly impressive. Bryan wrote about it much better than I could earlier this week if you want a more extensive take on the subject.
It’s possible, maybe even likely, that this gets addressed well before the July 31st trade deadline. But if not, that’s what I’ll be keeping my eye on as we get closer.
