Quintana will miss a reunion series, but for a pretty good reason.
The San Francisco Giants are visiting the Chicago Cubs this weekend, and while the storyline is the reunion of Kris Bryant, it’s also a reunion for another Giant: José Quintana. Quintana spent part of 2017, as well as all of 2018 through 2020 with the Cubs; and since he came there from the cross-town White Sox, this is the first season in his career when he hasn’t played for a Chicago team.
But he’ll be missing the reunion, and doing so for a very good reason: he’s got a kiddo on the way. On Friday, the Giants placed Quintana on the Paternity List, and recalled right-handed reliever Jay Jackson.

Quintana has been very solid since the Giants picked him up a week ago, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 hits, 4 walks, and 1 earned run, while striking out 10 batters. But family is quite a bit more important than baseball, so I doubt he’ll be too sad to be missing out on this series.
Back comes Jackson who has appeared in 20 games this season. In 17.1 innings he’s allowed 13 hits, 9 walks, and 9 earned runs, while striking out 26. He’s had a few tough games, but had some moments of absolute brilliance as well. The Giants will be quite comfortable going to him.
