A round up of the San Francisco Giants Minor League affiliates.
The San Francisco Giants AA, High-A, and Low-A affiliates were all off on Monday, leaving just five teams to try and win a game for the organization.
They all failed. Let’s jump in.

AAA Sacramento (40-54)
Sacramento River Cats lost to the Tacoma Rainers (Mariners) 6-4
Box score
A rather uninteresting day all around for Sacramento, as they only managed to turn 11 hits into 4 runs, in part because none of those hits left the yard. But it was a good day for center fielder Heliot Ramos (No. 3 CPL), who hit 2-5 with a double, raising his OPS to .772. That’s still a little bit below average for the hitter-happy environment, but we’re still a few weeks away from Ramos’ 22nd birthday.
Second baseman Jason Krizan also had a nice day, as he went 3-4. But it was a very rough day for right fielder Jaylin Davis (No. 20 CPL), who went 0-4 with 4 strikeouts, though he also drew a walk.
It was a bullpen game for Sacramento, and another nice appearance from RHP Kervin Castro (No. 25 CPL), who allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, and 0 runs in 2 innings, with 3 strikeouts. Castro — who is the only non-injured player on the 40-man roster who has yet to play for the Giants this year — now has a 3.00 ERA and 57 strikeouts to 21 walks in 42 innings.
But more rough days for RHP Reyes Moronta and LHP Caleb Baragar. Moronta, whose 60-day IL time recently ran out, forcing the Giants to add him back to the 40-man and option him, gave up 3 baserunners and 1 earned run in 0.2 innings. Since returning from injury in mid-July he’s pitched 8.2 innings and allowed 8 hits, 12 walks, and 7 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.
Baragar gave up 4 hits and 2 earned runs in 1 inning. He now has a 10.67 ERA in AAA after posting a 0.42 ERA in the Majors.
ACL Orange (21-19)
ACL Giants Orange lost to the Padres 5-4 (7 innings)
Box score
Just one extra base hit for the Giants Orange team, courtesy of center fielder Vaun Brown (23, 2021 10th round), who doubled, moving his OPS to .807. Right fielder Donovan McIntyre (18, 2021 11th round), after having a pinch-hit triple in his pro debut on Sunday, made his first start and hit 1-3 while drawing a walk and stealing a base.
Third baseman Anthony Rodriguez (18, 2019 J2) hit 2-3 with a walk to raise his OPS to .734, and first baseman Garrett Frechette (No. 27 CPL, 20, 2019 5th round) hit 2-4 to bump his OPS to .859.
RHP Trevor McDonald (No. 23 CPL, 20, 2019 11th round), still trying to rebound from injury, had a hot-and-cold start. In 3.2 innings he gave up 4 hits, 4 walks, 2 hit batters, and 3 earned runs, but also struck out 8.
ACL Black (20-20)
ACL Giants Black lost to the Indians 10-4 (7 innings)
Box score
Not much going on for either ACL team, really. The best player for the Giants Black squad was right fielder Jared Dupere (22, 2021 13th round), who hit 2-4 with a double to raise his OPS to .866. His debut season is just getting started but it’s solid so far.
Center fielder Alexander Suarez (19, 2018 J2) had a double for the team’s only other extra-base hit, though he struck out in his 3 other at-bats. Still, his OPS is sitting at a pretty .948.
All of the team’s pitchers struggled, but especially starting RHP Odue Civada (19, 2018 J2), who allowed 7 baserunners, 7 runs, and 6 earned runs in 2 innings, raising his ERA to 7.59.
DSL Orange (10-12)
DSL Giants Orange lost to Colorado 11-2
Box score
The Giants Orange squad lost big, but at least they scored their runs in interesting fashion, with both runs coming on home runs in the 8th inning. Designated hitter Brandy Rosario (17, 2020 J2) had the first, bumping his OPS to .710, and shortstop Ramon Peralta (17, 2020 J2) had the second, and also 2 walks, to raise his OPS to .451.
Other than that, it was a pretty bad day for the Giants Orange team, with no one providing much on either side of things. RHP Marlon Franco (18, 2019 J2) had the lone notable pitching performance, striking out 1 in a perfect inning.
DSL Black (10-10)
DSL Giants Black lost to the Cubs Red 9-7
Box score
The Giants Black team came so close to securing the only win of the day for the farm, as they carried a 7-4 lead into the 9th inning, but gave up a 5-spot to make it a winless day.
The top of the order did some nice things. Leading off was center fielder Mauricio Pierre (17, 2020 J2), who hit 1-3 with a home run to raise his OPS to .975. He was replaced by Randy Arrieta (17, 2020 J2), who had a single and a walk in his 2 plate appearances, bumping his OPS to .777. Next up was right fielder Juanel Urena (17, 2020 J2), who hit 1-3 with 2 walks to raise his OPS to .619.
After that the lineup went quiet, though catcher Onil Perez (18, 2019 J2) drew 3 walks, which is always fun, raising his OPS to .663.
While the pitching fell apart late, the first two pitchers were strong. RHP Jose Rojas (17, 2020 J2) pitched 4 innings, and gave up 2 hits, 3 walks, and 1 earned run, with 5 strikeouts. He has a 4.50 ERA, with 18 strikeouts to 11 walks in 20 innings. RHP Angel Moreno (20, 2019 J2) was the first person out of the bullpen, and gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, and 0 runs in 2 innings, with 3 strikeouts. He’s been struggling this year, so a nice appearance for him.

DSL Mauricio Pierre (3)
DSL Ramon Peralta (1)
DSL Brandy Rosario (1)
