A round up of the San Francisco Giants Minor League affiliates.

A new month of San Francisco Giants Minor League baseball kicked off on Wednesday, and it’s the final full month of the season.

Let’s hope the rest of the month goes better. AAA Sacramento had a scheduled off day, as did both of the Arizona Complex League teams, and the pair of Dominican Summer League squads. On top of that, AA Richmond had their game cancelled due to the coronavirus.

So that left just two teams to hold down the fort: High-A Eugene and Low-A San Jose.

They did not hold down the fort.

All listed positions are the positions played in that game.

High-A Eugene (59-46)

Eugene Emeralds lost to the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks) 7-2

If the organization was only going to play two games on Wednesday, couldn’t they at least have tried to avoid such a stinker?

Eugene’s hitters drew just 1 walk against 11 strikeouts, and had a mere 6 hits on the day. First baseman Logan Wyatt (No. 19 CPL) was the lone Giant to reach base twice, hitting 2-4 with a double to raise his OPS to .686. Catcher Ricardo Genovés (No. 29 CPL) had the team’s other extra-base hit, a double, which moved his OPS to .673.

The pitching wasn’t much better, but at least it featured RHP Blake Rivera (No. 22 CPL). Rivera made just his second appearance for Eugene, after missing most of the year with injury and then rehabbing in the ACL. He wasn’t good, as he allowed 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 runs, and 3 earned runs in 3 innings, with 3 strikeouts, but right now it’s just good to see him back on the mound.

Low-A San Jose (64-40)

San Jose Giants lost to the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks) 7-3
Box score

San Jose didn’t do much better than Eugene, though they did do a little better. Their hitters drew 5 walks against 8 strikeouts, and had 9 hits on the day.

There were a few decent performances: third baseman Edison Mora hit 2-4 with a double to bump his OPS to .679, and second baseman Jimmy Glowenke (No. 34 CPL) hit 1-3 with a double and a walk to move his OPS to .769.

First baseman Luis Toribio (No. 12 CPL) hit 2-4 with a walk to raise his OPS to .728, and center fielder Luis Matos (No. 5 CPL) had a double and an outfield assist, and now has a .818 OPS.

The pitching wasn’t good, but it was another decent performance from RHP Brooks Crawford, who gave up 1 hit in a scoreless inning, while striking out a batter. Crawford now has a 2.25 ERA, with 49 strikeouts to 7 walks in 40 innings.

Now, for something nicer

Since Wednesday was a rough day on the farm, let’s watch this video of Ryan Murphy’s pitching brilliance that the organization recently released.
