Remember how the Giants were NL West champions yesterday? Turns out they’re still NL West champions today.
Hello and happy Monday.
It’s been a day since the San Francisco Giants won the NL West, and I’m here to share some good news with you: they’re still the champions of the division.
I didn’t want to talk about anything else, because I’m still on cloud nine due to the Giants winning the division. Doing so is a colossal achievement in any year, but especially in a year where they were supposed to be mediocre, while stuck in a division with two teams projected to flirt with historical greatness.
In fact, back in February I wrote an article titled, The Giants might be surprisingly good, but it probably won’t be enough.
I stand by that pessimistic headline. It is improbable that the Giants being surprisingly good was enough … and that’s not an indictment of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s just a reminder that the Giants being “surprisingly good” resulted in one of the best seasons in modern baseball history.
So sit back and enjoy it.
There’s no baseball today, and there’s no Giants baseball until Friday, when they open the NLDS at Oracle Park and a time yet to be determined. Tomorrow you can watch the American League Wild Card game: the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox (5:00 p.m. PT, ESPN). And on Wednesday you can watch the big one: the NL Wild Card game, featuring the St. Louis Cardinals at the Los Angeles Dodgers (5:10 p.m. PT, TBS).
And as you watch those games, you can know that the Giants won the NL West.
