It’s time to pick the Player of the Week!
It hasn’t been the best week for the San Francisco Giants. They hit some bumps in the road, and suffered their first three-game sweep of the season at the hands of the Detroit Tigers. They’ve gone 12 consecutive games without scoring more than four runs, and haven’t scored more than three in 10 of those games.
But even in mediocre weeks, players shine brightly. So it’s time for a weekly tradition that Sami has rolled out this year: picking a player of the week.
There are certainly some names to choose from. Heliot Ramos hit a majestic dinger, while Matt Chapman homered and was an on-base machine. Kyle Harrison was electric in a start on Friday, and nearly every member of the bullpen shined.
And speaking of the bullpen, my choice is Camilo Doval. Not only did Doval have yet another week of looking completely and utterly unhittable, but he regained his role as closer, after losing it last season, just a year after being named an All-Star … a title he very well may garner again in a few weeks. And on top of all that, Doval was the feel-good story of the week: Friday’s win, which saw him notch a four-out save in his first game since being named closer, was the first time he’d pitched an MLB game in front of his mom.
He’s got the feels, the news, and the performance. An easy Player of the Week vote from me.
