The Giants will face some pretty tough competition over the last stretch of the season. They’re going to have to rise to the occasion if they want to stay in the hunt for a Wild Card spot.
Good morning, baseball fans!
With today being an off day for the San Francisco Giants before they head north to take on the Seattle Mariners this weekend, I thought it would be a good time to take a look ahead at the schedule for the remainder of the season.
It’s hard to believe that the 2024 season is nearly over, but we are down to the last five weeks. And the Giants are still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, sitting just three and a half games back (as of the time this is being written on Wednesday).
So let’s take a look at what the next five weeks will have in store for them.
First up, of course, will be the Mariners. They are also still in the running for a Wild Card spot, though farther out. The Giants will want to try to take a couple of games there, because after that they will be heading to Wisconsin to take on the first place Milwaukee Brewers.
The Giants head back to San Francisco after that to start a home series against the Miami Marlins (who are currently sitting in last place in the National League) so they will want to try and take as many games from that series as they can, because things get tough and stay tough after that.
The first two weeks of September will feature three series against their division and Wild Card rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres (who they will play twice), as well as another series against the Brewers.
Oh, and then another first place team when they visit Maryland to take on the Baltimore Orioles. And then another playoff contender when they visit the Kansas City Royals.
The last week of the season will start with another series against the Diamondbacks, before they close things out at home against the St. Louis Cardinals, who aren’t too far behind them in the playoff hunt at the moment.
So, you know, the last five weeks should be a breeze.
/laughs nervously
But, at the end of the day, you don’t get to the playoffs if you can’t rise to the occasion. So this last stretch should show us exactly what this team is made of, one way or another.
