But you already knew that.
Good morning, baseball fans.
As we talked about a little bit on Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants front office has their work cut out for them this off-season. And the number one item on the agenda, naturally, is the rotation. Which currently consists of Logan Webb and the shadow of Johnny Cueto’s club option.
Kevin Gausman, Alex Wood and Anthony DeSclafani (and Cueto, potentially) are all free agents, and will likely be well sought after, ranking fairly high on the list of upcoming free agent starting pitchers (sorted by position most played in 2021, ranked by 2021 fWAR).
The Giants will need to be competitive in pursuing free agents, due to a shortage of major league ready arms in their farm system. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they will opt to back up the Brinks truck to Max Scherzer’s house. It just means they’re going to be in on everyone. And they currently have a coaching staff that can work wonders on players looking to bounce back, so I think it’s anyone’s guess as to who will be behind Webb in the rotation next year.
