The latest on Wilmer Flores and Tristan Beck.
The San Francisco Giants offered up some injury updates on Monday, before beating the Washington Nationals to get back to .500 at long last. And as is usually the case with these things, some of the news is encouraging and some not so much.
On the happy side, the Giants announced that pitcher Tristan Beck will start a rehab assignment with AAA Sacramento on Thursday. We really hadn’t heard much about Beck, who was expected to be a part of the Giants rotation this year, but was shut down early in Spring Training, and underwent surgery in early March to deal with an aneurysm in his arm. It wasn’t clear how long he’d been out, though some were hoping for June or early July, which obviously didn’t happen.
With a lack of updates from the team, I had started to assume that Beck would miss the entire year, so this is exciting news. Beck could potentially add something special to the bullpen, and maybe even serve as the sixth starter should something happen to the rotation.
In less happy news, first baseman Wilmer Flores is set to undergo a Tenex procedure to help repair his damaged tendon. It will keep him out for quite a while it seems.
The Tenex procedure is an ultrasound guided procedure to deal with chronic tendon issues. Essentially, an ultrasound is used to find the area of “scar” tissue in the tendon. A small needle is then used to break down / remove scar. Recovery lands around 4-6 weeks. https://t.co/pG8VZ1RICf

Now that we can see the severity of the issue that landed him on the IL, the addition of Mark Canha makes even more sense.
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants play the Nationals (again) at 3:45 p.m. PT (again). It’s Hayden Birdsong day, though the Giants will need to clear a spot on the active roster to add Birdsong.
