Two players have now tested positive in the last week, at least one of which was a breakthrough case. The team should be focused on taking more precautions going forward.
Good morning, baseball fans. Like so many others in the country, the San Francisco Giants seem to be realizing that there is still a pandemic raging around them. Despite, or perhaps because of reaching the league’s vaccination threshold for loosened restrictions, the Giants have now had two players test positive in the last week.
Donovan Solano tested positive during the Mets series and had to stay behind in New York to quarantine. But this was a breakthrough case, as Solano said he had been vaccinated, and was thus having little to no symptoms. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Alex Wood. As of the time this is being written, it has not been made clear whether or not Wood had received the vaccine, but it was stated that he is dealing with considerable symptoms.
Johnny Cueto was pulled from his start last night due to being under the weather. He continues to test negative, but the Giants are keeping an eye on him just in case.
It’s probably in the team’s best interest, both for the health of their personnel and their families, as well as their hopes for a playoff run, that they revert to taking the precautions we all know by heart now. Masks, social distancing, etc. It was noted by one of the beat writers that more fans are beginning to wear masks to the park again. I know I will be when I attend on Saturday. And it would be a good look if the Giants were doing the same.
