The Giants may have swept the A’s over the weekend, but it was Wilmer Flores who shined the brightest.

As someone who covers the San Francisco Giants mostly only during the week, it takes me a little while to catch up on the action afterwards. So imagine my shock and yell of “WILMER FLORES DID WHAT?!?!” as a video of Flores hitting three home runs in the Friday night’s game came across my TikTok feed on Monday.
And even further amazement when I saw that he shrimped in the winning run on Saturday, as well. His third walk of that game. Absolute bananas.

As our regular readers are aware, this season I’ve been having everyone share their picks for Player of the Week and highlight of the week every weekend. Unfortunately, I have to pre-write those, so they don’t always get to include the most up-to-date information. But I could not, in good conscience, not highlight Flores’ accomplishment.
Wilmer Flores is both the hero Gotham deserves and needs right now. They say mere mortals should not fly too close to the sun, but Wilmer Flores is no mere mortal. And it was the baseballs that flew too close to the sun. Or something like that. We’ll workshop it.
The point is, this is a Wilmer Flores appreciation post because he deserves it, dagnabbit.
