UFC 269: Ultimate Betting Guide

December 11, 2021 by The Sports Fan Journal

We’re back with another Ultimate Betting Guide to give you an insight into all the action going down at UFC 269.

All odds featured can be found at BetMGM.

Gillian Robertson to defeat Priscila Cachoeira by Submission +100

To start the UFC 269 prelims we see a clash between women’s flyweight prospect Gillian Robertson and Brazilian journeywoman Priscila Cachoeira.

Since appearing on the 26th season of The Ultimate Fighter, Robertson has spent the majority of her 15 fight professional MMA career in the UFC, developing some of the most dangerous submission skills in the division in the process. However, the Canadian has struggled to implement her styles in her most recent performances, losing back to back decisions to Talia Santos and Miranda Maverick.

Meanwhile, her opponent Priscila Cachoeira has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in recent fights. Seen by many in the MMA community as something of a sacrificial lamb for Valentina Schevchenko’s UFC debut at 125lbs, Cachoeira lost her first three fights in the promotion but has since rebounded with impressive knockout wins over Gina Mazany and Shana Dobson.

However, at just 26, and developing under the careful tutelage of UFC veteran Din Thomas, Robertson is constantly improving, and look to her to get back in the win column at the expense of the Brazilian on Saturday night.

Ryan Hall to defeat Darrick Minner by Submission +130

Ryan Hall is an enigma, even amongst the colourful cast of characters that is the UFC roster. Hall first gained notoriety for his success in submission grappling, before returning to MMA and making his way to the UFC in 2015 after representing team Urijah Faber on TUF.

Possessing one of the most dangerous submission games in the sport, Hall has since rounded his style out with a variety of karate-style kicks from distance, thrown with the confidence of a fighter who has little fear of his opponent taking him down.

In his last outing Hall suffered the first loss of his UFC career, as Illia Topuria became the first fighter to completely neutralise Hall’s signature offence in the Octagon.

On Saturday night Hall will look to rebound against Dana White’s Contender Series alum Darrick Minner, an LFA veteran who has gone 2-2 in his UFC stint.

While Minner has demonstrated his durability inside the Octagon, his eight career losses by submission demonstrate a vulnerability that you do not want to have against a grappler of Hall’s caliber. We expect Hall to relentlessly attack submissions and get the tap sooner rather than later in the fight.

Augusto Sakai to defeat Tai Tuivasa by Decision +275

Augusto Sakai and Tai Tuivasa will clash in the opening bout of the main card on Saturday night, as the fan favourite and noted shoey lover Tuivasa looks to earn his fourth consecutive knockout victory since returning to the UFC in 2020.

Sakai initially appeared to be a hot prospect in the 265lb division after earning a knockout victory on DWCS back in 2018. The Brazilian won four straight inside the Octagon to force his way into the top ten of the UFC’s heavyweight rankings. Consecutive losses to both Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik have halted Sakai’s momentum, but this fight against the exciting, but often inconsistent Tuivasa, offers the perfect opportunity for the Brazilian to right the ship.

When heavyweights collide inside the Octagon, there is always a possibility that the fireworks do not come and we believe that this is a strong possibility here. Look for Tuivasa to struggle to implement his game plan as Sakai ultimately triumphs via the judges’ scorecards.

Amanda Nunes to defeat Julianna Pena by Decision +400

Amanda Nunes returns to the Octagon in UFC 269’s co-main event looking to continue to cement her legacy as the greatest female fighter in the history of combat sports. The first and only female double UFC champ, Nunes will face off against perennial bantamweight contender Julianna Pena in her first defence of the 135lb belt since 2019.

Pena put out one of the most impressive performances of her UFC career with a submission win over Olympic Silver medalist Sara McMann on Fight Island back in January and will be hoping to parlay her momentum into an impressive performance on Saturday night.

Unfortunately for Pena, Nunes has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down in recent years, but has occasionally fallen short of the lofty expectations that are often bestowed upon her, such as her disappointing, though still utterly dominant, victory over Felicia Spencer back in June of last year.

However, provided Pena can weather the early storm that Nunes is so famous for, it is possible that she can exploit the Brazilian’s cardio issues to make it into the championship rounds. Though Nunes should still comfortably walk away with the victory, at +400 a decision win looks to be a good bet.

Dustin Poirier to defeat Charles Oliveira in Round 1 +375

The UFC lightweight division has been in a state of transition ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov decided to walk away from the sport after his victory over Justin Gaethje in 2019.

Perhaps the main beneficiary from this upheaval has been Charles Oliveira, as he overcame serious adversity to defeat Michael Chandler in dramatic fashion to win the vacant 155lb belt at UFC 262. Oliviera made his UFC debut in 2010, and has evolved from purely being a submission fighter to rounding out his skills to include a dangerous striking game.

Much like Oliveira, Dustin Poirier is a true UFC veteran, with Saturday’s main event marking his 27th walk to the Octagon. Also like his opponent on Saturday night, Poirier has developed significantly from the fighter who was on the receiving end of losses from the Korean Zombie and Cub Swanson.

Back-to-back victories over Conor McGregor have elevated Poirier’s star power to new levels, and a win over Oliveira is a great chance for the Louisianan to finally capture undisputed UFC gold. Expect action from the opening bell as both fighters attempt to take the upper hand, but for Poirier to emerge victorious, with +375 for a first-round finish looking like a serious possibility.
