Here’s my favorite memory of Austin Slater. What are some of yours?
Good morning, baseball fans!
It saddened me to learn that the San Francisco Giants had traded their longest tenured player, Austin Slater, earlier this week.
One of my fondest memories at Oracle Park heavily involves Slater.
It was a cool July evening back in 2019, one that some of you may remember well because it was a McCovey Chronicles meet-up game. I was quite sick, but all smiles as I watched Bryan Murphy (our Bryan Murphy, not the other Bryan Murphy) bicker with our former colleague Carmen Kiew about whether or not Austin Slater was, in fact, good.
Later in that game, Slater closed the door on that conversation rather emphatically by hitting a grand slam. The only grand slam I’ve ever seen in person. And I didn’t even realize the bases were loaded (I was sick, remember). But it was one of the most fun games I’ve ever been to and will always be my fondest memory of Austin Slater.
What will you remember Slater for?
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants continue this three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at 6:45 p.m. PT.
