Justin Verlander vs. Spencer Strider.
It’s breakfast baseball for those of us on the West Coast, as the San Francisco Giants play the Atlanta Braves at 9:15 a.m. PT. And because of that, you get a combined BP/gamethread because, well … you just do.
The Giants have been playing very bad baseball lately, but thanks to a 9-0 win on Tuesday, they now have a chance to head home — and rest on an off day — with a series win.
It will likely take a good performance from righty Justin Verlander who, shockingly, is still in search of his first win with the Giants. The three-time Cy Young winner is 0-8 on the year, in 16 starts, with a 4.99 ERA, a 4.25 FIP, and 67 strikeouts against 28 walks in 79.1 innings. He got rocked in his first start, giving up four runs and making it through just 2.2 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game back from the break.
He’s up against righty Spencer Strider, who makes his 13th start of the season. He’s 4-7 with a 3.59 ERA, a 3.58 FIP, and 82 strikeouts against 27 walks in 67.2 innings. He was fantastic his last time out, tossing six shutout innings against the New York Yankees.
Enjoy the game, Giants fans. Go Giants! Go breakfast! Go coffee!
