Earlier this week, the Giants optioned Tyler Fitzgerald to Triple-A Sacramento. How are Giants fans feeling about this move?
Good morning, baseball fans!
I don’t know about you, but this week has felt like a blur so far. So much so that I completely missed the fact that the San Francisco Giants optioned Tyler Fitzgerald to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
If you (also) missed the news, Bryan covered it here and you should take a look because he definitely summed up the situation better than I could. Essentially, Fitzgerald has not been performing as well since coming back from the injured list after fracturing his rib. And the Giants needed a roster spot for yesterday’s starting pitcher, Justin Verlander, as he returned from paternity leave. So Fitzgerald drew the short straw.
Personally, I’m bummed. I have liked a lot of what I’ve seen from Fitzgerald and it’s a bummer to see him get sent down. But I can’t say it wasn’t the right move. With Matt Chapman getting closer to returning, the Giants are likely going to be turning to Casey Schmitt as their starting second baseman, and it’s hard to argue with that at the moment.
How are you feeling about the Giants sending Tyler Fitzgerald to Sacramento?
Also, we are running out of time to get votes in for this year’s All-Star Game. As a reminder, we are now pushing for Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman and Wilmer Flores. It might be a long-shot, but at least we’re doing our part. So make sure to head over to the voting site and get your votes in while you still can!
