Verlander noted that a physical issue was at play after a shaky performance in his last start on Sunday.
Good morning, baseball fans!
The San Francisco Giants swept the Athletics over the weekend. However, despite starting in one of those games, Justin Verlander is still searching for his first credited win of the season.
Verlander’s start was in Sunday’s game, in which he allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout and five walks in four innings. After the game, he said that he was dealing with a physical issue, but left it fairly vague.
Per reporting by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants manager Bob Melvin offered a little more information. He said that the issue was pec-related, and that they plan to give Verlander a day or two to rest and that they would re-evaluate his status later today. Melvin noted that hopefully Verlander would be good to go in his next turn in the rotation.
It’s a good thing that the team has been pretty consistently getting Thursdays off, because that will push Verlander’s next start back another day to Saturday, if all goes well.
