“Off-Night” was very much on for the Kings against the Trail Blazers.

The Sacramento Kings improved to 3-0 in the preseason Monday night with a 107-93 victory over the Portland Trailblazers.

Davion Mitchell put on an offensive clinic, scoring 20 points on 6-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Terence Davis contributed a healthy 17 points off of the bench.

Sacramento was without the likes of Tyrese Haliburton, Tristan Thompson and Buddy Hield, all of whom were late-afternoon scratches on account of rest. Marvin Bagley III was ruled out prior to tip-off with knee soreness, but Luke Walton emphasized that it wasn’t anything serious.

Prior to tonight’s contest, Walton shared that the matchup would feature a more “regular” set of players who are likely to see real time on the court in the season. However, with the absence of four players who have cracked the starting lineup this preseason, tonight served more as an extended audition for the role players.

Mitchell saw his first preseason start alongside De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes, Moe Harkless and Richaun Holmes. Portland rolled out a lineup featuring Anfernee Simons, CJ Elleby, Larry Nance Jr., Jusuf Nurkic and Keljin Blevins.

Davis was an absolute spark plug for a sputtering Kings’ offense in the first quarter, scoring 10 of Sacramento’s 25 points in the frame shooting 4-4 from the field. Mitchell started the game with a three and, after going stagnant for a bit, had a heater of a second frame with 17 points on 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc heading into halftime.

Sacramento led by as many as 18 in the second half of action, seeing superb offensive spurts from Barnes, Harkless, Mitchell and #SummerKings Jamhi’us Ramsey and Chimezie Metu. Fox managed to stealthily carve out 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Tonight proved to be another sampling of how much depth this Sacramento roster has in the guard position. With reliable contributions from Mitchell and Davis like this on a regular basis, the Kings should be well-equipped for offensive success beyond the usual suspects.

The Kings will conclude their preseason on Thursday October 14 as they host the Los Angeles Lakers at home.
