Sacramento Kings reportedly to remove interim tag, hire Doug Christie as head coach
It’s a grand narrative, the former popular point guard coming “home” to coach the team. But can any coach win enough with a LaVine/DeRozan/Sabonis core?

I am very curious to see what coaching staff Doug Christie puts together. He will need a couple vets to help with the experience factor.
He shouldn’t have a hard time finding his guys. Doug is very popular around the league. – 12:13 PM

More on this storyline
Jake Fischer: I think Doug Christie is probably in a very strong position to retain that role, being that the owner, Vivek Ranadivé, is very much known to be a supporter of his. He’s known, generally and characteristically, to be a supporter of former players in head coaching capacities. For example, Mark Jackson was someone that Vivek wanted to hire years ago — before they even hired Mike Brown. So, I’m expecting as of now, until I hear otherwise, that Doug Christie will be retaining that chair moving forward. -via YouTube / April 29, 2025
Andrew Bogut on Kings firing Mike Brown: ‘That is a prime opportunity for you as an ownership group, as the GM to say, ‘you know what? Look in the rearview mirror. Look at our last 20 odd years. We’ve been sh*t. We have a bit of success. Some of it’s because of the roster. Some of it’s because of our coach. We’re backing the coach.’ They should have done something like Miami does, right? ‘Sit down. Shut the f*ck up. This is our guy. You don’t want to be here? We’ll get you out of here.’ But at least they had something. Now Doug Christie wasn’t awful. Finished the season okay, but they finally had a coach that had something to him. Gone. Michael Malone. Similar story. Gone. -via YouTube / April 27, 2025
James Ham: According to Scott Perry, he has spoken to Doug Christie multiple times since taking the job and he’ll have a resolution on the direction of the coaching search in Sacramento in the next week. -via Twitter @James_HamNBA / April 23, 2025
