Another day, another failed effort by the Los Angeles Lakers to land a big-name free agent. And DeMar DeRozan is no small loss.
According to reports from multiple NBA insiders, the six-time All-Star is set to sign a free agent deal with the Sacramento Kings. Per Adrian Wojnarowski, it’s a sign-and-trade involving the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls.
“The Sacramento Kings are agreed on a sign-and-trade that will land DeMar DeRozan on a three-year deal, send Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash to the Chicago Bulls,” Woj reported.
DeRozan is a six-time All-Star who is coming off 11 straight seasons averaging over 20 points per game. He’s been pretty healthy too, never missing more than 21 games in a season since entering the league in 2009.
The Lakers quickly got roasted for letting yet another top player slip past them in an offseason of relative silence:
“With SAC signing Demar DeRozan, the NBA can probably start taking down television time for the Lakers next season already. The franchise don’t deserve the amount of embarassment they’re about to get on free coverages. I’m a big LeBron fan but his team officially sniffs (expletive) now,” one user wrote.
“Nobody wants to play for JJ. Lakers can’t even get Demar Derozan,” wrote another.
“Not even DeMar DeRozan wanted part of the Lakers CIRCUS. LMAO,” a third declared.
Things are looking pretty bleak for the Lakers based on this offseason. Can they make any move to increase confidence in them?
