Sacramento nabs its second win of the tournament with a double-digit victory over Washington.
In the Kings’ second game of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, No. 9 overall Davion Mitchell met No. 15 overall pick Corey Kispert and though the matchup didn’t live up to the hype, Sacramento picked up another win.
Sacramento started the contest strong offensively with Mitchell picking up an early assist to his newly-guaranteed teammate Chimezie Metu and making two 3-pointers to take a healthy 8-0 lead. Early foul trouble and a string of offense for the Wizards led to an 11-0 run, and the quarter ended knotted up with both teams at 21.
The second quarter was that of parody, with both teams exchanging offensive spurts and not too much strong defense. However, Sacramento shooting 8-14 from beyond the arc kept the Kings up 44-39 heading into halftime, with Mitchell leading the Kings in scoring with 10 points through two frames.
The Kings beat the Wizards 89-75 in what was overall a consistent game from everyone who suited up for Sactown.
Kings sophomore Jahmi’us Ramsey shined with 13 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Four out of the five Kings starters were in double-digits as well as Murkey and Coleman off the bench.
Despite some sloppy play and foul trouble on both sides resulting in careless turnovers throughout the entire contest (again, it’s Summer League), there was a resounding sense that this roster has begun to gel, running real plays and finding each other much more seamlessly than just a week ago at the California Classic.
