The Kings committed 19 turnovers and shot just 2-of-17 from three.

For the second night in a row, the Sacramento Kings lost a game at the Golden 1 Center to an in-state rival, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers 84-74 on Wednesday. As is expected when you put together a bunch of young guys without much practice time, much of Wednesday’s game was sloppy.

The Kings couldn’t buy a shot from three on Wednesday, finishing just 2-of-17 from behind the arc and were coughing up the ball all night, finishing with 19 turnovers.

Following his impressive Kings debut on Tuesday against the Warriors, Davion Mitchell struggled offensively on Wednesday night, as he finished with 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the floor. Mitchell still had a few athletic finishes around the rim but settled for tough midrangers a few times on Wednesday. Despite the shot not falling, Mitchell remained active on defense which was an encouraging sign.

Emmanuel Terry was one of the team’s few bright spots as he was able to make most of his shots around the rim due to his activity and hustle on the boards. He finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

The other bright spot on offense for Sacramento was Louis King, who bounced back from a frustrating performance on Tuesday with a game-high 19 points on Wednesday. King, who played well in the final few games of last season with the Kings, again showed his skillset on the wing.

Both of the Kings second-round draft picks from 2020, Jahmi’us Ramsey and Robert Woodard struggled mightily on Wednesday. Ramsey started in the backcourt next to Mitchell and just looked uncomfortable out there, shooting just 1-of-5 and turning the ball over four times. Woodard, like Ramsey couldn’t buy a shot either finishing 1 of 6 on the night.

The team’s second round pick from 2021, Neemias Queta made his Kings debut on Wednesday, finishing with six points and playing with a lot of energy during his limited minutes. Something that stuck out watching Queta was his impressive athletic ability given his huge seven foot frame.

Overall, it’s not worth fretting too much on the consecutive losses and the overall sloppy play from the Kings. It’s just summer league after all.

The team should start to look a bit more connected the next time they hit the hardwood during the Las Vegas Summer League with more practice time in the coming days.

The Kings will tip off their Vegas slate on Monday, August 9 against the Charlotte Hornets.
