The No. 39 overall draft pick has officially inked a deal with the Kings.
The Sacramento Kings announced on Sunday that Neemias Queta, the No. 39 overall draft pick in the 2021 NBA, has signed a two-way contract with them.
Per the Kings’ press release, “Queta accrued career averages of 13.2 points (.594 FG%) 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 28.0 minutes per game in 86 games (84 starts) at Utah State and was named Mountain West Conference (MWC) Defensive Player of the Year for both 2019 and 2021. He was also selected to the MWC All-Defensive First Team in each of the three seasons, and setting single-season records of 97 blocks and blocks per game (3.3) during the 2020-21 season.
“The 7-0, 245-pound center is also the career record-holder of most career blocks (219) and blocks per game (2.5) during his three-year stint at Utah State. A native of Barreiro, Portugal, Queta becomes the first-ever native of Portugal to be drafted into the NBA.”
The two-way contract was introduced in 2017, a new deal that allowed for players to navigate smoothly back and forth between NBA G League and the association. In any given season, a team can have two (2) two-way players on the roster at a time, though may not spend more than 45 days with their NBA team.
For Queta, the Stockton Kings may look more like home than Sacramento this season. With newly retained Richaun Holmes and the acquisition of Tristan Thompson big man minutes might be hard to come by at first glance. However, depending on where the season takes Sacramento with injuries, intensity of play and willingness to compete at a high level. there will definitely be moments for Queta to develop in a Kings uniform.
