Andre Iguodala announced his return to the Golden State Warriors this Friday in an exclusive interview with Jonathan Adams of the New York Times. However, that didn’t stop The Athletic’s Shams Charania from reporting about the signing.
“Source: Andre Iguodala — a three-time Warriors champion and 2015 Finals MVP — agreed to sign a deal to return to Golden State,” Charania tweeted. “The Brooklyn Nets were also a finalist.”
That post from Charania didn’t sit well with Iguodala, who questioned Charania’s sources for this particular situation.
“Jonathan Adams and the New York Times was the source bro,” Iguodala replied.

While it’s very possible that Charania was plugged in for Iguodala’s situation, there’s no denying that Adams was first to break the news. Charania gave Adams credit in a follow-up tweet, but that was after Iguodala called him out.
Iguodala didn’t just tell Adams that he was returning to the Warriors, he revealed why he’s going back to them.
“Who would have thought I’d have the opportunity to go back to the place where I was able to have, whatever you want to call it, legacy years, in terms of the accomplishments, winning multiple championships, the relationships that I was able to build with some of my closest friends and teammates,” Iguodala told Abrams. “The relationship with the fans, the relationship with the Bay, the opportunity to end it here, was just something special.”
Iguodala’s deal with Golden State for the 2021-22 season is a one-year, veteran minimum contract.
