Bulls showed interest in Jonathan Kuminga during trade discussions over the past two seasons

June 22, 2025 by Hoops Hype

Sources say that Chicago has as an ongoing interest in the 22-year-old forward. This tracks with past interest that the Bulls have shown in Jonathan Kuminga in previous trade discussions with Golden State over the past two seasons involving players such as Alex Caruso, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević.

More on this storyline

Jonathan Kuminga is looking for an expanded and consistent role moving forward, league sources told HoopsHype. The Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat are two teams to monitor as potential sign-and-trade candidates for Kuminga, league sources told HoopsHype. With that in mind, the Warriors have also not ruled out the possibility of retaining Kuminga, sources said. -via HoopsHype / June 16, 2025
Bobby Marks on Jonathan Kuminga: “It all depends on him. It really comes down to that he basically controls free agency in Golden State because if they sign him to a contract and bring him back, then that’s really it as far as what they can do in the offseason, as far as they might have one of their smaller exceptions and everything here. And then you look at the rest of the roster, and it’s like, okay, is it [Buddy] Hield? Is it Brandin [Podziemski]? Some of these other players… Guys that are not making that much money. It will be interesting as far as paying attention to what happens to teams looking to shed salary. Certainly Boston is a team that we’ll circle as far as what happens with the Celtics here. Orlando is another team that’s got a pretty high cost moving forward.” -via Twitter / June 3, 2025
The Warriors’ front office, Kuminga’s representatives and the league are expected to explore all options into July. But team sources have been hinting that, because of these market and financial restrictions, there’s a likely world where the most obvious and prudent path is for them to bring Kuminga back and figure the rest out later. -via New York Times / May 29, 2025
