Draymond Green Has Heated Moment With Reporter At Team’s Media Day

How Steph Curry Met Ayesha… (1:01)

Things appeared to get pretty contentious between Draymond Green and a member of the press at Warriors Media Day on Monday.

While fielding questions, the Warriors All-Star was asked about “people” who are worried about him — including fans and “maybe his teammates” — which sparked a pretty uncomfortable back-and-forth while he was at the podium.

“Why are they worried about me?” Green asked the reporter. “I am a successful black man in America doing incredibly well. What’s to worry about me? … There are way more people in this world to worry about than me. That’s for sure.”

“But we’re here now,” the media member replied.

“We’re all here. I don’t think you should worry about me,” Draymond said. “I’m doing pretty well. If you would have told me when I was 13 years old in Saginaw, Michigan without a pot to piss in that you would be sitting here and somebody would say that they are worried about you… I probably would have told them they were out of their mind. I’d be sitting here and they would be worried about me.”

The reporter eventually got to the heart of his question: “They are worried for themselves too. Because they know that the team needs you and they don’t know if you are going to be here.”

“I’m here,” Green said. “I’ve been here for 13 years now. Been here pretty much every night for 13 years.”

“Not so,” the reporter claimed.

“Very much so,” Draymond shot back.

The exchange went on for another minute or so before the Dubs forward moved onto the next topic.

It seemed like the reporter was eluding to Green’s past suspensions for antics like choking Rudy Gobert and hitting Jusuf Nurkic in the face. But clearly they danced around the topic which only seemed to bother Draymond even more.

Green’s past actions have certainly hurt his team at times but when he’s on the court and he’s on his best behavior, he’s very much the engine that makes the Warriors go — especially on the defensive side of the ball.
