Draymond Green, Kevin Durant Send Clear Message About Their Warriors Break-Up

In a recent interview on Bleacher Report’s Chips series, former teammates Draymond Green and Kevin Durant sat down to clear the air on KD’s decision to leave the Warriors.

Durant previously admitted that his infamous on-court conflict with Green played a role in his decision to call it quits, but the all-time great scorer revealed just how much that drove him in his recent response.

“How much did our argument against the Clippers drive you to ultimately leave the Warriors?” Draymond asked.

“It wasn’t the argument, it was how Steve Kerr acted like it didn’t happen,” KD said. “Bob Myers tried to just discipline you and think that would put the mask over everything. I really felt like that was such a big situation for us as a group — the first time we went through something like that. We had to get that s— all out.”

During an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2018, the two Golden State teammates got into a heated argument. Instead of kicking the ball to Durant, Green elected to take the ball up the court himself — ultimately dribbling the ball off his own foot to seal the eventual loss.

Green and KD recounted the events on Durant’s The ETCs podcast earlier this year.

“I’m walking off the court, and K is yelling, ‘Give me the motherf–king ball.’ I’m just looking at him, and my response was, ‘I was f–king passing you the ball if you would have f–king ran.’ I sit [on the bench] and he’s like two or three chairs over from me. He slaps the chair right next to me, ‘I said give me the f–king ball.’ That’s when I was like, ‘Yo, hey motherf–ker I do this too. I was gonna give your a– the ball if you weren’t f–king bitching. I do this too,’” Green explained.

Clearly Durant and Green are on decent terms now, but this outburst certainly caused a strain in the Golden State locker room. KD said he felt like the team “danced around” the problem instead of dealing with it head on.

Durant left the team in 2019 after they failed to claim their third straight title.

With this conflict now firmly in the past, KD will look to chase championship with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021-22.
