Draymond Green Made His Most Insane Victor Wembanyama Take

October 29, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Every season, someone makes a bold claim that forces NBA fans to stop scrolling. Draymond Green often has those takes. Last season, during the All-Star break, he proclaimed that the Golden State Warriors would win the championship. They looked great for a moment, but an injury to Steph Curry prevented them from competing for a title. Now, the former Defensive Player of the Year has a bold take about Victor Wembanyama and his MVP chances.

Draymond Green Made His Most Insane Victor Wembanyama Take

We all know that Draymond doesn’t hold back, and this time, he might have dropped his boldest take yet. Speaking on his podcast, he predicted that Wemby might win the regular season MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Most Improved Player of the Year awards this season. That has never happened before. Yes, players have won DPOY and MVP in the same season, but three awards in the same year? That is unheard of. And the reality is, Wembanyama does have a chance to do it. Here is what Draymond said:

“We must talk about Wemby. He is like, I want the next MVP award. And I don’t want it like then, I want it now. He is going to be like MVP, DPOY, and Most Improved. He is going to be in position to compete for all those awards.”

Through four games, Wemby is averaging 31 points, 13.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and a ridiculous 4.8 blocks. We can safely say that nobody expected the San Antonio Spurs to sit atop the Western Conference after four games. But thanks to Wembanyama’s play, they are.

Victor Wembanyama’s MVP Odds

Here is the fun part. It is clear that people are making huge bets on Wemby to win the MVP award. Before the season started, he was not even in the top five by odds to win it. Now, he is second, right behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA is at +170, followed by Wemby at +310, and then Nikola Jokic at +400. Having better odds of winning the MVP award than Jokic is wild. But the way he is playing, the sky is the limit for the French phenomenon. We have yet to see a 7-footer who can block shots on one end, dribble like a guard, and then launch a three-pointer from the logo, all in the same sequence.

No Competition for DPOY

If Victor plays 65 games, he will be a lock to win his first DPOY award. He was the favorite last season, but a blood clot prevented him from reaching the minimum number of games played. This season, he is having an even better defensive year. Players are now afraid to even get into the paint with Victor there. That fear is something not many players can instill in opponents.

Wemby now has a streak of 89 consecutive games with at least one block. If he remains healthy and plays this full season, he has the chance to break that record. Speaking of the DPOY award, Wemby is the favorite at -210, followed by Chet Holmgren at +750 and Evan Mobley at +1,500. Simply put, if he is healthy, no other player can touch him.

Should Wemby Be Considered for Most Improved?

Here’s the thing: so far, no No. 1 pick has won the Most Improved Player award. To be fair, people expect No. 1 picks to improve, develop, and make a leap. But the leap that Wemby is making this year is truly remarkable. So far, the highest pick that has won the award is Ja Morant, who was drafted second overall. And even that win was considered controversial at the time. Right now, Wemby is tied for the 10th-best overall odds at +4,000.
