The Golden State Warriors suffered their first loss of the Western Conference Semifinals yesterday as they got blown out by the Minnesota Timberwolves. After the game, Draymond Green didn’t have much to say, but his words certainly made waves.
In a brief statement after the game, Green addressed the fouls he received in the 117-93 loss. Rather than go to the podium, he spoke to reporters in the locker room and decried “the agenda” to make him “look like the angry Black man.”
“I’m sick of the agenda to make me look like the angry Black man. I’m not an angry Black man,” Green said. “I’m a very successful, educated Black man with a great family. And I’m great at basketball, I’m great at what I do. The agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry Black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous.”

But nothing gets people more eager to say something than being explicitly told they can’t.
“Dirtiest player in the NBA trying to play the victim card,” one user joked.
“There is no agenda. You punched your teammate in the face. You spent 3/4 of your court time screaming in the face of refs, opponents, or fans. YOU did this to yourself. You are not a victim,” wrote another.
“Oh so now I guess I’m not allowed to constantly be intentionally elbowing guys in the head. I guess everyone just decided to stop pretending my malicious flailing is plausible” a third wrote.
“This coming from the guy we’ve watched flat out assault other players for over a decade, and also knocked his own teammate out, is hilarious.”
“yeah i yell in Refs faces, got millions in fines from the league, throw elbows and knees and campaign it as toughness but sureeee discard all that stuff its just a media narrative.”
Green has long held a reputation for being one of the NBA’s dirtiest players. Whether or not race is a factor in how he’s been disciplined through the years, there’s no denying that he has been guilty of a ton of fouls – many of which have warranted suspension.
The good news for Green is that the series is tied 1-1, so there’s still plenty of time to get some of those results back.
But if he’s already this frustrated, he’s going to need to work extra hard to get his head back in the game.
