With Klay Thompson reportedly joining the Dallas Mavericks, the Golden State Warriors have an open roster spot that they’re apparently filling with a former first-round pick.
According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are signing forward Kyle Anderson on a sign-and-trade. Per the report, the Warriors are sending the Minnesota Timberwolves a future second-round pick swap along with cash as part of the three-year, $27 million deal Anderson is signing.
“Golden State is sending Minnesota a future second-round pick swap and cash in the sign-and-trade, sources tell ESPN,” Woj wrote.
Anderson was the 30th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft and has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and most recently the Timberwolves. He has made 304 starts in 653 games and has averaged 6.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists throughout his career.
Suffice it to say, Anderson isn’t exactly going to hop in and replace someone like Klay Thompson. But he could be a strong option off the bench or even as a starter in a pinch.
One thing seems clear: The Warriors have a lot of soul-searching to do in order to achieve the heights they once enjoyed just a few short years ago.
How would you grade the signing of Kyle Anderson?
