A legendary Golden State Warrior passed away on Tuesday.
Alvin Attles passed away at the age of 87. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing, per NBA.com.
He was affiliated with the franchise for over 60 years and is one of six Warriors in the franchise’s history to have their number retired. Attles played for the Warriors for 11 years before coaching them from 1970-83.
During his coaching career, he amassed a 557-518 record.

Upon seeing the news of his passing, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame released a statement, giving its condolences to Attles and his family.
“The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame lost one of the game’s longest-serving and most accomplished individuals. Alvin “Al” Attles spent seven decades in basketball as a player, coach, general manager, vice president, and consultant. He led the Golden State Warriors to the 1975 NBA championship as a head coach after playing 11 seasons for the franchise. His life’s work will live on forever at the Basketball Hall of Fame,” the statement read.
As a player, Attles averaged 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
