Golden State basketball is on the way! Come join our game thread and chat about tonight’s matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors will play with their season on the line Wednesday night as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in a win-or-go-home Game 5 matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM PT in San Francisco and will be broadcast on TNT.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State dropped what may have been its final home game of the season on Monday night, losing to the Timberwolves 117-110 in Game 4. Despite putting together another competitive effort, the Warriors couldn’t recover from a devastating 17-0 Minnesota run in the third quarter, sparked by Anthony Edwards’ deep buzzer-beating three just before halftime.

Four of the Warriors’ five starters scored in double figures, but none of them were able to score over 14 points as Jonathan Kuminga led the team with 23 points off the bench. Golden State’s biggest offensive issue came from beyond the arc, where they shot just 8-of-27 (29.6%). The Timberwolves, by contrast, caught fire—hitting 16-of-34 from deep (47.1%).

“We just lost our ability to connect the game there in that third quarter and they got loose. And that was the difference in the game.”

What to watch for tonight:

Down 3-1 in the series, the Warriors have no more second chances. They’ll need to win three straight games to advance—and at least one more without Stephen Curry, who has been ruled out for Game 5 despite making “good progress” in his recovery from a strained left hamstring.

Jimmy Butler, who was battling an illness during Game 4 according to head coach Steve Kerr, attempted just nine shots en route to 14 points. If the Warriors hope to extend their season, they’ll need “Playoff Jimmy” in full form—something Kerr expects to see from his star player tonight.

However, Butler can’t do it alone. Draymond Green matched him with 14 points, and although he isn’t a consistent scoring option, any offensive output from him will be needed. Meanwhile, Brandin Podziemski continues to struggle from deep, going 0-of-4 in Game 4 and is now 3-of-17 from three-point range throughout the entire series.

With their offense sputtering, the Warriors must hang their hopes on defense. They rank seventh in the playoffs in defensive rating at 111.1—but they have to be even better to make up for the loss of Curry’s scoring.

Golden State faces its biggest challenge of the year as they attempt to win in a hostile road environment against a Timberwolves team eager to punch its ticket to the Western Conference Finals for the second-straight year. Winning will be a longshot without the greatest three-point shooter of all time—but with a roster full of battle-tested veterans, the Warriors aren’t counting themselves out just yet.
