Jonathan Kuminga returned to Congo this week but is not expected to play in this year’s FIBA AfroBasket tournament, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
The restricted free agent is currently locked in a contract stalemate with the Warriors.
Kuminga continues to decline the offered two-year, $45 million contract due to the Warriors insisting on a team option for the second year and their request for Kuminga to waive his right to block trades in the first year as per the nature of the contract.
The Kings and the Warriors have engaged in trade talks, with draft protections a sticking point in the discussions. The Kings have reportedly offered Kuminga a three-year, $63 million deal in restricted free agency.
Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II are expected to sign with the Warriors once Kuminga’s situation gets resolved.
FIBA AfroBasket 2025 begins on August 12.
