If they’re going to pay that sort of freight, it’s quite clear, it will be for a younger player who can be a long-term part of their picture. To that end, league sources say the Kings are among the teams that have interest in Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga and will be monitoring his market when his restricted free agency begins. And while it appears unlikely that Kuminga will ultimately come their way, it speaks to the vision, and the range of possibilities here, that they’re even focusing on players of that ilk.

Spent time with Jonathan Kuminga in Cleveland. He wants a chance to be a featured scorer/creator.
“It don’t matter if it’s the Warriors or anywhere else, it’s something I want. I want to see what I could do. I know I got it. So I want to really see.”

It’s also worth noting that The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported Wednesday that the Heat has “legitimate Johnathan Kuminga interest, per league sources, among others expected to explore the idea [of a sign-and-trade] as the market materializes.” The Heat has some level of interest in Jonathan Kuminga, but is currently exploring other potential moves, according to a league source. -via Miami Herald / June 25, 2025
Kuminga set a franchise record with 138 dunks in his third season. He scored double-digits in 34 straight games. He averaged 20.6 points in January and finished that season at 16.1 points per game on 52.9 percent shooting. His fourth season included a big stretch prior to the ankle sprain — that at one point had Draymond Green declaring Kuminga up next and accepting a brief demotion — and the four-game playoff flurry to close against Minnesota. “I did it here and there, but it was never a consistent role, a consistent role given to me,” Jonathan Kuminga said. “It only happens five games on, 10 games off. I want it to be a consistent role. Because I know what I got. I know what I could bring. I know how much work I put in. I know I’m dedicated to this game, how much I love the game.” -via New York Times / June 25, 2025
