Sonya Curry, the mother of Warriors star Steph Curry, went viral during Monday night’s game against the Suns.
In the final minute of the fourth quarter, Damion Lee and JaMychal Green had some words for each other. The officials gave them technical fouls for their brief altercation.
Sonya, meanwhile, was visibly defending Lee from the stands. That makes sense considering he’s her son-in-law.
This situation ended with Draymond Green chirping at Sonya for a few minutes. It was a funny scene that gained a lot of attention from the NBA world.
“This looks friendly until you realize Draymond is a habitual line stepper,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan said, “If this wasn’t a playful joke, the vibes at the birthday party afterwards are going to be awkward.”
“Y’all know that’s her family now,” a third fan commented.
Steph Curry was actually asked about his mother’s exchange with Green during Monday night’s press conference.
“That was like old-school AAU back in the day where parents get involved,” Curry said. “JaMychal and D-Lee had their moment. I gave her my tickets tonight so she had to be with the Warriors but she was gonna switch sides to protect her son-in-law. That’s what it was all about. Just some good, fun back-and-forth. Family over everything at time.”
At the end of the day, Sonya Curry was just showing support for her inner circle.
Besides, it’s not like she was upset the Warriors won. She got to witness another great performance from her son.
