Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is no fan of President Trump, frequently calling out the president for a variety of reasons. Yesterday he had a new taunt directed at Trump.
During his most recent postgame press conference, Kerr wore a Harvard basketball t-shirt to show his support for Harvard University, which is currently clashing with the Trump administration. He explained that Harvard basketball coach Tommy Amaker is a friend of his and he received the shirt from him back in November.
“Tommy Amaker’s a friend of mine, Harvard coach. We practiced there in Boston in November. He gave me this shirt. Felt like a great day to wear it,” Kerr said.
“I believe in academic freedom. I think it’s crucial for all of our institutions to handle their own business the way they want to and they should not be shaken down and told what to teach, what to say by our government. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. But it’s kind of par for the course right now. So yes this is me supporting Harvard. Way to go, way to stand up to the bully.”

Users on social media weren’t amused by his actions or his statement though. Many mocked him for his political beliefs in response to the news:
“Focus on basketball please, or go to CNN, we’re the 7 seed & he’s more worried about politics, it’s getting really old. Go be a California senator or go join cnn, but focus on basketball in presser,” one user suggested.
“You’re entitled to teach what you want at your university. You’re not entitled to tax dollars to fund it. Simple as that. Basketball coach brain,” wrote another.
“While I love Steve Kerr and understand his perspective, Harvard is a private school if they don’t like what the current administration is doing then they can raise their own funds instead of using taxpayer money!”
“He needs to keep the politics out of it. Focus your energy on how to use JK so you don’t have to Hail Mary every time Buddy puts up a shot.”
What a surprise: People disagree on political takes.
On to the next one.
As for basketball, the Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday in the Play-In Round to qualify for the playoffs.
Golden State will take on the Houston Rockets with Game 1 coming this Sunday.
