Fresh off a gold medal victory, Steve Kerr spoke at Monday’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
The Golden State Warriors head coach delivered a seven-minute speech on behalf of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Kerr closed his remarks by channeling his star player’s frequently used celebration.
“After the results are tallied that [election] night, in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump, ‘night night,'” Kerr said.
Observers responded to Kerr’s closing remarks on social media.
“Steve Kerr just hit Trump with the Steph ‘Night Night’ celly. It might actually be over,” B.W. Carlin wrote.
“Steve Kerr with a massive mic drop,” the Wu Tang is for the Children account said.
“November is gonna be Night Night, Donny forever,” Hall of Fame head coach George Karl predicted.
“Every clip I see of this man I enjoy him more and more,” a fan wrote.

With “Sirius” playing over the speakers, the former Chicago Bulls star returned to the United Center. Kerr jokingly told younger viewers to Google “Michael Jordan” before conveying how proud he was to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics.
The 58-year-old acknowledged that his appearance won’t be well-received by NBA fans who don’t support the Democratic ticket, but he felt compelled to appear anyway.
“I know very well that speaking out about politics these days comes with risks. I can see the ‘Shut up and whistle’ tweets being fired up off as we speak,” Kerr said. “But I also knew, as soon I was asked, that it was too important as an American citizen not to speak up.”
Kerr explained his criteria for leadership before declaring that the choice for president is “no contest” because he sees “all those qualities” in Harris and Walz.
“I believe that leaders must display dignity. I believe that leaders must tell the truth,” Kerr said. “I believe leaders should be able to laugh at themselves. I believe leaders must care for and love the people they are leading.”
