With the Warriors continuing to wait before making moves official, Anthony Slater of ESPN tied them to Seth Curry.
The Golden State Warriors have not made any official signings yet this offseason, but plenty of rumors have already swirled about verbal agreements ready to be signed as soon as the Jonathan Kuminga saga concludes. While Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton have already been mentioned plenty, another name added to the mix is free agent Charlotte Hornets guard Seth Curry. Curry, of course, is the younger brother of Warriors star Steph Curry. While the Curry brothers have never played on the same team in the NBA, Seth began his career in the Warriors organization.
“All signs point to Al Horford,” Anthony Slater said on NBA Today . “They’re certainly interested in him. I would say if they are not able to get that done with Horford, who you hear is also mulling retirement, if he’s not on the roster next year it’s a big miss by the Warriors cause that’s in their plans. They need a stretch five. THey are also looking for perimeter defense. There is mutual interest in a reunion with De’Anthony Melton… They want some extra shooting. Another name I’ve heard with mutual interest, Seth Curry actually as a potential bench shooting option with a family option.”

Curry began his professional career with the Warriors G-League affiliate after finishing his college tenure at Duke. After an impressive G-League stint, Curry oscillated between the G-League and NBA, receiving stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Phoenix Suns before landing a consistent role with the Sacramento Kings in the 2015-16 season. Ever since, Curry has been one of the best role player shooters in the league, making 43.3% of his threes on four attempts per game over his career.
Last season, Curry followed in his father’s legacy with the Hornets. He appeared in 68 games (14 starts) and averaged 6.5 points. 1.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.4 steals in 15.6 minutes per game. Curry led the league with a 45.6% three-point percentage. Despite his shooting, Curry has limited other impactful NBA skills, and can be overmatched defensively at times.
With Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, rookie Will Richard, and presumably Melton all comprising the non-Steph Curry guards currently on the roster, Seth Curry would add some veteran depth with some family ties. His elite shooting could also make it easier to part with Hield in an eventual trade. While Hield was an excellent fit with the Warriors last season after the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, his $9.2 million salary is an obvious candidate to be aggregated if the Dubs make another big trade.
